San Robles, one of the lesser known California wine regions offers a wonderful selection of wineries; to which Norman Vineyards is a great starting point on your wine tasting tour of the central coast.
Norman Vineyards was founded in 1971 when Art and Lei Norman were looking for a place to realize their dream of growing grapes and making wine. Driven by Art's memories of his father and grandfather making wine at home when he was a child, the Norman's spent weekends searching out a location in the cooler coastal climates of California, before settling on their adelaida site in the yet to be discovered Westside appellation of Paso Robles, CA.
The winery is near the ocean and tucked right into the hillside; blending effortlessly into the land and surrounding vineyards like a piece of a puzzle that completes the picture. The upstairs tasting room and garden patio serve as the perfect complement to the savory Zinfandels and elegant reds of this eclectic winery. One of the most inviting aspects of Norman is to walk the wooded grounds and find a picturesque spot in the picnic area where a loaf of bread, cheese and a glass of Zinfandel makes for a perfect afternoon.
Like a number of wineries these days, they host a handful of events and concerts whereby; the scenic grounds serve as a canvas for the savor of grapes and music that fill the air with abundance.
Norman offers a robust variety of about 10 wines; concentrated on Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Specialty and limited production wines can be found in the grand tasting room.
